Students head to state in UIL academic, speech competition

The Lampasas High School UIL Academics team and Speech & Debate qualifiers had a successful weekend recently in Nacogdoches, where several qualified for state competition. Headed to the state meet this month are: Amelia Stanley – first place/regional champion in News Writing, coached by Kayla Cain Veronica Butler – third place in Copy Editing, coached by Kayla Cain Laura Webb – second place in Computer Applications, coached by Cathy Kuehne Kailey Morgan – fifth place (alternate to state) in Computer Applications, coached by Cathy Kuehne Sophia Munoz – sixth place (alternate to state) in Computer Applications, coached by Cathy Kuehne Callie Bekker – first place/regional champion in Prose Interpretation, coached by Judith Ann McGhee Camilla Lopez – sixth place (alternate to state) in Informative Extemporaneous Speaking, coached by Judith Ann McGhee Cameron Parker – fourth place (alternate to state) in Spelling, coached by Ashley Race Ben Stone – second place (alternate to state) in Chemistry, seventh-place Overall Science, coached by Dejah Bushong “We are so proud of all of our district and regional UIL competitors and coaches,” said McGhee, who serves as UIL academic coordinator and speech & debate coach at Lampasas High School.

River rescuers honored at Texas Capitol

On April 20, the Texas House of Representatives adopted House Resolution 1080 to honor first responders who participated last month in the river rescue of 9-yearold Luke Sappenfield and his 15-year-old brother, Hunter.
