Cort Maples, a fifth-grader at Taylor Creek Elementary School, was named the Red Cross Breed Champion at the Heart of Texas Livestock Show in Waco this year with his steer Pepe’ Le Pew. The Premium Steer Show consisted of more than 500 head of steers and 18 breeds. Cort has been showing cattle since he was 6 years old. His parents are Thad and Heather Maples.
