Lampasas led at the end of every quarter and defeated the Georgetown East View Lady Patriots 53-38 at home on Saturday. The season-opener victory was the Lady Badgers’ first against East View in coach Mark Myers’ tenure.
Myers has led Lampasas to three straight playoff appearances, and he is optimistic with about 10 returning lettermen.
Payton Tatum led the Lady Badgers with 15 points, including nine free throws.
East View committed 23 fouls, and Lampasas had 22.
“Payton played extremely well,” Myers said. “She got to the rim.”
The Lady Badgers’ 3 threepointers (two by Laurcy Bender and one by Taylor Allen) also were a good start for the season opener, Myers said.
With three players listed at 6’0” or taller, “we’ve got a lot more height” than in the past. “So we’ve got to find ways to take advantage of that.”
Senior Addison McDonald played four different positions, but Myers plans to keep her primarily at guard.
McDonald’s move to guard will allow Morgan Lovejoy, Kyliegh Ball and Juliana Dwamena to spend more time at post, McDonald’s previous position.
Dwamena did not play on Saturday, but Myers expects her to be in action soon.
Bre Quarles and Cobie Chandler are “lock-down” defenders, the coach added.
Lampasas outscored the Lady Patriots 22-10 in the first quarter. The Lady Badgers led 28-15 at halftime and 45-24 after three quarters.
The Lady Badgers’ next game is Nov. 10 against McGregor at Bozarth-Fowler Gym after the ninth-grade game at 5 p.m.
The LHS freshmen defeated the East View JV, while the Lady Badger JV was in quarantine.
