He was born on Dec. 6, 1941 in East Liverpool, Ohio to Harry and Bonnie Kloh Salser.

Roger grew up as a “military brat,” but his fondest memories were from his grandparents’ farm in West Virginia and his family's stay in New Mexico.

He graduated from high school in Vine Grove, Kentucky in 1959. He joined the U.S. Navy shortly thereafter. He served in the submarine service and traveled through a good part of the world.

He was a well-read, self-taught man who loved languages, cooking and carpentry, but mostly his family.

Roger married Jutta Degen in 1972 in Lousville, Kentucky, and they were married for 49 years.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Lynn Salser.

Roger is survived by his wife, Jutta of Lampasas; his son, Roger Jr. of Arizona; daughters Sonja (David) of Virginia and Jessica (Michael) of Lampasas; grandchildren Kristin Nevarez (Jose) of Arizona, Degen Benedict of Virginia, and Pepper and Pearl Sanchez of Lampasas; several greatgrandchildren, including Lily and Ezra Nevarez of Arizona; a sister; and several nieces and nephews.
