Lometa City Council approves insurance plan

The Lometa City Council met last week and heard a presentation by Aflac representative Tom Purcell. Purcell explained the benefits of an insurance plan that would help cover out-of-pocket costs for city employees who qualify for coverage.

TOWN HALL

The city of Lampasas has announced a new date for an upcoming town-hall meeting. The Lampasas City Council will hold a town-hall session March 22 at 5:30 p.m. at the former Lampasas Middle School cafeteria, located at 103 N. Western Ave.

RABIES REPORTED

The Lampasas Animal Shelter reported last week that a skunk found in the 6000 block of FM 1715 had tested positive for rabies. Shelter officials remind the public to be watchful and to report to the county animal control officer any animals that are acting strangely.

DISTRICT COURT

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened several days last week, with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the hearings. Defendant Adrian Louis Navarro of Burnet was found guilty of indecency with a childsexual contact and sentenced to five years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

ARRESTS

The following arrests were reported to the Lampasas Dispatch Record by area law enforcement officials. The Dispatch Record prints the name and charge(s) of people arrested on at least one Class B misdemeanor – or more serious – charge.

LHS students place well at regional competition

Three Lampasas High School students placed and earned a total of $8,000 in scholarships at the FCCLA Region 2 Competition in Waco on Feb 26. Aaron Martinez won the regional championship in Mystery Basket, along with $3,500 in scholarships.

Lometa school board approves calendar update

The Lometa Independent School District Board of Trustees voted last week to modify the district calendar because of school closures during the recent ice storm. Lometa ISD’s fifth sixweeks grading period started Feb.

Funeral home installs crematory

Mike Jones of Lampasas Trucking used a crane earlier this week to help Heritage Funeral Home install a crematory inside the Heritage building on North Key Avenue. The crematory allows for on-site cremations so families do not have to send the body of the deceased to an out-of-county facility.
