Cub Scouts to race derby cars

Cub Scout Pack 100 will hold its annual derby race on March 27 in the parking lot of Hanna Springs Elementary School. The downhill race will feature several packs competing for the title of “Fastest Cub-Mobile.” Check-in time starts at 10:30 a.m., with the race to commence at noon.

Septic system maintenance virtual clinic set for April 7

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Lampasas River Watershed Partnership will offer a free virtual clinic about septic system maintenance for homeowners. The program is scheduled for April 7 from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Carter BloodCare bus comes to Lampasas

AdventHealth Rollins Brook hosted a blood drive Wednesday in its parking lot aboard the Carter BloodCare bus.

Lometa ISD receives $27,000 of federal coronavirus funds via county

The Lometa Independent School District received financial help the federal government passed down through the county. During a Lampasas County Commissioners Court meeting last week, County Auditor Tragina Tallant requested that approximately $20,117 go to Lometa ISD for COVID-19 reimbursement.

DISTRICT COURT

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings. Defendant Allison Patricia Haley of Austin pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a controlled substance greater than or equal to 4 grams and less than 200 grams.

CATTLE AUCTION

The March 17 Lampasas Cattle Auction report follows. Cattle and calves: Total cattle 495, compared to 489 last sale and 335 at this time last year. Compared to last sale, feeder steers and heifers were steady to $5 higher. Slaughter cows were $1-$3 higher, and slaughter bulls were steady.

SHEEP AND GOAT AUCTION

The March 11 market report from Mills County Commission Co. follows. Total receipts: 3,163. Previous week: 3,422. Trends: Light kids $10 lower. Slaughter kids $5- $10 lower; slaughter nannies $5-$10 lower; replacement nannies steady.

Community helps family displaced by Monday house fire

The early-morning hours of March 15 will forever affect the Fields family. Around 1:56 a.m., husband and father of two Brandon Fields was awakened by a power outage. With his wife Tara, they investigated the home.
