BARBECUE FESTIVAL The Lampasas Beer Barn LTX BBQ Fest will be Friday and Saturday at the county show barn, at 283 North U.S. Highway 183. Admission is $5 — but free for those under 16, and for all military and first-responder personnel with proper identification.

42 Tournament planned in Briggs

Briggs Community Center will be the site for the Jack & Nora Patterson Memorial 42 Tournament on Sept. 11, beginning at 9 a.m. Cost is $10 per person. A catered lunch will be available. Plaques will be awarded to winning players. The community center is at 185 Loop 308 in Briggs.

Whataburger honors fallen servicemembers

Inside the new Whataburger is a table with 13 burgers, a flag and decorations honoring the 13 U.S. servicemembers killed while supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

Sneaker fundraiser will benefit LHS theatre program

The Lampasas High School Theatre Booster Club is sponsoring an athletic shoe drive to raise money for the Lampasas Theatre Company. The booster club will earn funds based on the total quantity of gently worn, used and new sneakers collected.

‘Cooking Well With Diabetes’ class offered

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension is offering its “Cooking Well With Diabetes” course on a new online learning platform named AgriLife Learn, at agrilifelearntamu.edu. Cooking Well With Diabetes has been an AgriLife program for more than 15 years.

CATTLE AUCTION

The report from the Sept. 1 Lampasas Cattle Auction follows.  Cattle and calves: Total cattle 499, compared to 586 last sale and 588 at this time last year. Compared to last sale, feeder steers and heifers were steady on quality livestock.

SHEEP AND GOAT AUCTION

The Aug. 26 market report from Mills County Commission Co. follows. Total receipts: 2,363. Previous week: 2,084. Trends: Light kids $5 lower. Slaughter kids and slaughter nannies steady; replacement nannies steady. Wool lambs steady to $5 lower; Dorper and Barbado lambs steady. Prices follow.
