The report from the Jan. 19 Lampasas Cattle Auction follows. Cattle and calves: Total cattle 695, compared to 709 last sale and 436 at this time last year. Compared to last sale, feeder steers and heifers were steady. Slaughter cows were $2-$4 higher, and slaughter bulls were $1-$3 higher.

Lampasas County 27 th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings. Defendant Zachary Austin Kelley of Lampasas pleaded no contest to a third-degree felony charge of injury to a child.

OUTDOOR BURN BAN Due to drought conditions across the area, the Lampasas County Commissioners Court has instituted an outdoor burn ban for unincorporated areas of the county. Burning of trash, brush and open campfires is prohibited countywide.

Lampasans start planning for 2024 solar eclipse

An informational meeting was held Thursday at the old middle school cafeteria so interested residents could start planning for a 2024 solar eclipse that is expected to draw thousands to the area. The eclipse will occur between 12:18 p.m. and 2:59 p.m. on April 8, 2024.
