LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC The Little Night Music concert series at the courthouse bandstand in downtown Lampasas will conclude June 24. The featured performers Bobby Starr & Friends are scheduled to play beginning at 8 p.m. Courtyard Square Association will offer free lemonade, water and popcorn.

Copperas Cove Graduate joins Navy submarine USS Annapolis

A Copperas Cove, Texas, native is serving aboard USS Annapolis, one of the world’s most advanced nuclear-powered submarines. Fireman Tristian Stromitis, a 2020 Copperas Cove High School graduate, joined the Navy two years ago, with goals of shaping his future for the better.

Fort Hood to hold Freedom Fest Friday, 10 days earlier than usual

Fort Hood’s Freedom Fest is set from 4 to 10:30 p.m. Friday at Hood Stadium located behind the Clear Creek Post Exchange — more than a week than normal.  In 2021, the festival was held the Friday before, July 2. The festival was canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus.

The Lampasas City Council approved two projects that will upgrade electrical equipment at two substations in the city. During a council meeting June 13, Assistant City Manager Ryan Ward presented a formerly approved project so the council could acknowledge and OK a significant rise in price.

Sales tax revenues slow for some but remain strong countywide

For the second consecutive month – and the third time this year – the city of Lometa has posted the area’s largest sales tax percentage gains. Lometa earned a rebate of $7,624 in June as its portion of local sales taxes. June payments are based on sales that occurred in April.

With record triple-digit temperatures expected through the weekend, residents are seeking refuge indoors — which can cause an increase in demand on the electric grid. On June 13, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas grid conditions showed the state had 75,083 megawatts of demand at 5:20 p.m.

L-M GARDEN AND CIVIC CLUB The Lometa L-M Garden and Civic Club will hold a summer fundraiser at the Bancorp South parking lot in Lometa on July 2 from 8 a.m. to noon. This will be a plant sale and bake sale combination. Proceeds will help the garden club with its community projects.

KCCB Scholarship Golf Tournament set for August

The second annual Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful Scholarship Golf Tournament is set for August 20 at the Hills of Cove Golf Course. Check-in for the tournament will open at 7:30 a.m. and the first tee off is at 9 a.m.
