New county commissioner precincts on the horizon

The Lampasas County Commissioners Court met Tuesday for a public hearing and a called meeting to discuss new precinct boundaries for the county commissioners. Precinct 1 Commissioner Bobby Carroll, Precinct 2 Commissioner Jamie Smart and County Judge Randy Hoyer were present for the meeting.

Lampasas County may see severe thunderstorm activity and hail beginning Thursday evening, National Weather Service officials said. NWS meteorologists issued a hazardous weather outlook for Lampasas, Coryell, Bell, Hamilton Mills and surrounding counties as of 11:23 a.m. on Thursday.

The Texas cedar, which is actually not a cedar tree at all but is instead an Ashe juniper, aka blueberry cedar (Juniperus ashei) or a redberry cedar (Juniperus pinchotii), has been the bane of many livestock producers.

The reinvestment zone was scrapped after a vote by the Commissioners Court. In May, the Lampasas Independent School District Board of Trustees voted down a similar tax incentive plan for the Green Go solar farm after significant opposition from area residents.

Church opens as warming center

Lampasas Community Church opened its doors over the weekend as a warming center for those who needed a place to stay, away from the frigid temperatures and blustery winds that plagued the area for several days.
