Burn Ban

Roots erupting through the soil surface that extend beyond the tree trunk are known as surface roots. This is a normal part of aging for shallowrooted trees. The aging roots increase in circumference just like the tree’s branches and trunk.

Two grass fires near Lometa engulfed more than 130 acres of ranch land on Monday. Precinct 2 Commissioner Jamie Smart, who also is a Lometa Volunteer Fire Department firefighter, said both fires were contained around 8 p.m.

Hill family reunion planned in Jonesboro
