When Madison Roedler drove home from her college campus the first weekend in March, she thought it would be a quick trip. She planned to work a little, spend time with family and friends, and go to their home church on Sunday morning.

Copperas Cove business owner Ira Brand will be honored with this year’s Golden Deeds Award, to be presented at the Book of Golden Deeds banquet.Three Copperas Cove Exchange Clubs – the Morning, Noon and CenTex clubs – have combined for the event this year.
Jason Roberts and the rest of the Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys did not disappoint, as their lively tunes resonated from the stage. The brass instruments, steel guitars, piano, mandolin and bass cello blended melodiously while the fiddler’s bow moved with graceful precision, weaving intricate harmonies into the evening air. May 1, 2024, will mark the end of an era that began on July 19, 1959. The echo of cattle lowing will cease to exist. The auction cafe will no longer operate. Cattle buyers, beef producers and cowboys will no longer swap greetings and stories.

Austin-area resident Jenna Herrington was among the several hundred eclipse watchers Monday at W.M. Brook Park. The Meade MTS-SN8 telescope offered a view of the sun once the clouds parted about mid-morning, enabling a clearer perspective on the eclipse.

Severe weather expected after today's eclipse

National Weather Service meteorologists are predicting severe storms this afternoon after the total solar eclipse. The NWS issued a hazardous weather outlook at 4:26 a.m. Monday for North and Central Texas, including Lampasas, Hamilton, Coryell, Bell and several other surrounding counties.
