L-M Garden Club tours county museum

Lometa L-M Garden and Civic Club held its meeting Oct. 17 at Putters & Gutters Fun Center in Lampasas at 6 p.m. for a short business session and Dutch treat meal of pizza and beverages. About 13 club members were present. The meeting was called to order by club president Debbie Hicks.

While many see Halloween as a relaxed night to justifiably gorge themselves in treats and sweets, I am here to tell you that All Hallow’s Eve night is the most physically demanding of all the holidays. First and foremost, prior to eating the candy, one must hunt it down.

An annual event for the Library Foundation of Lampasas, Texas resumed this year after a several-year hiatus, initiated by coronavirus concerns. This year’s BBQ for Books fundraiser, however, surpassed the previous record of meals sold by more than 100, according to foundation volunteers.

Bowling event to raise funds to benefit Toys for Tots

A bowling tournament will be held Nov. 13, starting at 9 a.m. at Putters & Gutters Fun Center in Lampasas. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Fee is $100 per team, with a four-person team format to be used. Half the proceeds will go toward payouts for the first-, second- and third-place teams.

New bridge group forming

A new open bridge group, called Community Bridge, has formed in Lampasas. For many years, Daughters of the Republic of Texas sponsored a game day at the Hostess House. Since COVID hit in 2020, the group has not met but has now re-organized and will begin play on Nov. 7 at 1 p.m.

The owners of Hodges & Sargent Pharmacy are expanding their business into the former bank building that sits next to the Key Avenue pharmacy. The building formerly was home to a Bancorp South branch until it merged with National United.
