Mesa Hammond, the 8-year-old daughter of Sean and Natalie Hammond, is so excited for the opportunity to compete for the Little Miss Diamondback Jubilee Rodeo Princess! She is an avid barrel racer and competes every weekend, following in her mom’s footsteps.

A “Growing and Nourishing Healthy Communities” gardening class will begin Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Lampasas Garden Apartments, 1311 Central Texas Expressway. Classes will continue for six Wednesdays. Sessions are free to the incomeeligible; a donation will be requested from others.

The report from the March 8 Lampasas Cattle Auction follows. Cattle and calves: Total cattle 717, compared to 600 last sale and 410 at this time last year. Compared to last sale, feeder steers and heifers were $3-$5 higher. Slaughter cows and slaughter bulls were steady.

Hill Country 100 Club honors Lampasas-area first responders

Eight Lampasas-area first responders were recognized in an annual Hill Country 100 awards ceremony on March 2. The Hill Country 100 Club is an allvolunteer organization that supports first-responder families with financial aid during times of crisis.

LHS qualifies 11 band students for state UIL competition

Lampasas High School’s Badger Band will send 11 students to the State UIL Solo & Ensemble event, said Band Director Eduardo Zambrano. “Students traveled to Westlake High School on Feb. 25 to compete in the UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest,” he said.

Lampasas High School senior Callie Bekker, playing the part of Gerty Fail in “Failure: A Love Story,” runs through a scene with senior James Vasquez at a rehearsal Sunday. The theater troupe competed with this production in Jarrell on Monday and hosted a public performance on Thursday.
