Mary Ann Wavell, born July 2, 1948 in Dallas, lived an adventurous life marked by her deep love for family, learning and travel. She grew up in Dallas and attended Trinity University in San Antonio.

Mary Ann married Leland Cage Wavell, a Navy fighter pilot, and together they welcomed two children while living in various places across the United States and overseas. After their divorce, she continued her commitment to education by teaching for the Department of Defense Dependents Schools in Germany. She spent eight years living and traveling throughout Europe.

Eventually, Mary Ann returned to Austin, where she worked as a middle school librarian until her retirement. A devoted animal lover — especially of her dogs — and a passionate artist, she also treasured the time she spent on her land outside Lampasas. Her “ranch” became a gathering place for family and friends.

Mary Ann was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of ovarian cancer. She showed remarkable bravery and realism given her prognosis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Jefferson Murphy and Mary Sabrina McKelvain Murphy, and her aunt, Edwina Perry Wieser of Lampasas.

She is survived by her daughter, Carrie Ann Wavell Mark; sonin- law, Robert Mark; grandchildren Dutch Mark, Dustan Mark, Annika Mark, and Ella Wavell; her son, Cage Jefferson Wavell; and her sister, Sara Sabrina Murphy Sundstrom.
