Mr. Cox

After a battle with cancer. Richard Dewayne Cox, age 58, died May 7, 2026 under hospice care at his home in Azle.

Richard and his twin brother Roger were born on Aug. 15, 1967, in Burnet to Roy Don Cox and Linda Ann DeLeon Cox.

He spent his childhood years living in Burnet, Llano and Dublin. Richard graduated in 1985 from Dublin High School. He met his wife of 36 years, Kathy, at Abilene Christian University.

In 1992, Richard began his career with the United States Postal Service in Snyder. Richard transferred to the Lampasas Post Office as a city carrier in 1995. He and Kathy raised their family in Lampasas until 2015, when they moved to the Denton area to further his career with USPS.

Richard retired from USPS in May 2024 with 31 years of service.

He was a member at First Street Church of Christ in Lampasas where he served as a deacon for many years.

Richard had many hobbies including directing musical dramas at Family Bible School, leading singing, attending church camp, watching the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys, and singing with the Hims of Praise men’s chorus. He also enjoyed doing counted cross stitch.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Cox, and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kathy Cox; children Lindsey Cox Willie and Cameron Cox (Jenna); a grandson, Connor Willie; his father Don Cox; siblings Lou Ann Taylor, Roger Cox and Rory Cox; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held July 11 at 2 p.m. at First Street Church of Christ in Lampasas.
