Indian Artifact & Mineral and Gem Show set Sept. 17

The annual Indian Artifact & Mineral and Gem Show has been set for Sept. 17. Hosted by Vision Lampasas, the event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lampasas County Show Barn at 283 North U.S. Highway 183. “It’s educational and historic,” said Warren Bluntzer, an event organizer.

Student named recipient of national scholarship

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation has announced that Zachary Inglis of Lampasas is among 49 high school graduates participating in the Cooke Young Scholars program who have been named Cooke College Scholars.

The report from the Aug. 31 Lampasas Cattle Auction follows. Cattle and calves: Total cattle 308, compared to 312 last sale and 499 at this time last year. Compared to last sale, feeder steers were $1-$3 higher; heifers were steady to $3 lower.

Randy Lake to retire from Lampasas VFD next week

After nearly four decades of service to the community, Randy Lake, assistant chief for the Lampasas Volunteer Fire Department, will step down. Lake will have served 38 years in the department as of Saturday. His last official day with the volunteer department will be Sept. 6.

Community rallies to support teacher battling cancer

Acancer diagnosis didn’t stop fifthgrade math teacher Tammy Sheard from pouring into her new students at Taylor Creek Elementary School. Principal Shona Moore said Sheard “keeps knocking it out of the park,” with her students scoring highest in the district on their STAAR math tests.

Catholic church to host pancake breakfast

The Knights of Columbus will offer an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast Sunday from 7 a.m. to noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Pancake breakfast is $3; egg, sausage and pancake meal is $5; beverages are $1. Children ages 10 and under may eat free.
