Kids of different ages participate in activities for Spring Ho

Scorching afternoon temperatures may have kept some away from the Kids’ Day Activities on July 8, but those who spent the afternoon at Gavin Garrett Soccer Field had numerous competitions to enter. The Lampasas Boys & Girls Club hosted the activities for youth ages 3-10. Results follow.

Former Lady Badger softball player named to all-state team

Alycia Cantu was a standout for the Lady Badgers during her time on the softball field, and following her senior year she was named an honorablemention selection on the Texas Sports Writers Association 4A all-state team.

Spring Ho Kayakers paddle their way to victory

The kayak races at Spring Ho are a fun and competitive tradition for the Saturday afternoon of the annual weeklong festival. The results from this year’s races follows. The grand champions were Jerry O’Hair and Cameron Johnson.

Two Lampasas golfers place in summer tournament

Peyton Spore and Nick Haas, both incoming juniors at Lampasas High School, played in a recent event at the San Saba River Golf Course. Both placed in the top three. Spore came in second, shooting 76, and Haas finished third with a 80.

Reelin’ it in: Fishing derby draws hundreds

On a humid and sunny Wednesday morning, mother-daughter duo Shante and Evalynn Seward were quite active along the creek at W.M. Brook Park. While Mom was patient holding the fishing pole, her 8-year-old was calf deep in the water, with cup in hand, grabbing the fish.

Youth baseball team wins district, heading to state tournament

The 14U baseball team the Sluggers won their district championship and now will be playing in the state tournament this month. The state competition is set to start next Monday, and the Sluggers – which consists of mostly incoming freshman to Lampasas High School – will look to bring home the win.

Tournament proceeds donated to school districts

The Keller-Williams golf scramble, held last month in collaboration with Murray Events Inc. and the Alycia Hooper Real Estate team, has donated $3,000 to local school districts. The Lampasas ISD received $2,200, and $800 went to the Lometa ISD.
