Hundreds of runners participate in Toughest 10K race

As the sun rose early Saturday morning, many cars, bikes and other forms of transportation arrived at Hancock Park with more than 400 runners who had signed up to participate in the Toughest 10K, 5K and 1-mile races.

Former Badger named new Lometa basketball coach

A 23-year-old former Lampasas Badger got his first job as a head coach when he was named the new boys’ basketball coach for the Lometa Hornets.

Hundreds line the creek for annual Kiddie Fishing Derby

The annual Spring Ho Kiddie Fishing Derby took place from 8-10 a.m. Wednesday. Parents and children lined the banks of Sulphur Creek in W.M. Brook Park, hoping to catch perch, catfish, bass or anything else that would take their bait.

It is the beginning of July and 7-on-7 play just ended, but if you’re a high school football nut like me, you’re already looking ahead to mid-August when the Badgers and every other football team across the state will battle under the Friday night lights once again.

Several youth sports camps available this month

With SWAT weight-training ongoing for Badger athletes for a few more weeks, there also will be several different youth sports camps offered in the month of July. On July 10-11, a youth golf camp will be held at Hancock Park Golf Course.

Summer swim camp to be held at Hanna Springs pool

A summer swim camp will begin next week and run from July 4-20. The sessions will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week, with instruction available for children ages 6-18. Those ages 11-18 will participate in swim camp from 7:30-8:15 a.m.
