Fire destroys detached garage in Lometa

A detached garage located on East Oak Steet in Lometa is a total loss after it was engulfed by flames Oct. 12 in a structure fire. Lampasas Fire Marshal J.P. Harris said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 10:41 p.m.

Motorcycle passenger receives injuries in solo crash

A 41-year-old woman from Frisco was sent to the hospital after receiving injuries in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident on Oct. 13. Agencies on the scene included the Lampasas Police Department, Lampasas Fire Department and Hamilton EMS. Lampasas police received a call at 3:42 p.m.

Badger Band eyes more success at area competition

The Lampasas High School Badger Marching Band will head to Pflugerville for the UIL 4A Area D Marching Band Contest on Saturday. Last week, the Badger Band earned a “Superior” rating at the regional competition in Burnet, which allows it to advance to area.

School choice bill heads to House floor

Texas lawmakers are continuing their discussions over creation of Education Savings Accounts, also known as school choice legislation. Last week during a special called third session of the Texas Legislature, the Senate passed Senate Bill 1 that outlines the criteria for school choice.

The early-voting period for the Nov. 7 Constitutional Amendment Election begins Monday and runs through Nov. 3. Fourteen amendments are proposed. Registered voters in Lampasas County may cast an early ballot on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lampasas County Elections Office, 407 S. Pecan St.
