Lometa VFD celebrates new substation

Having a dream is often the first step toward accomplishing a major goal. For the Lometa Volunteer Fire Department, one of its biggest dreams has become reality. A second fire station, located at 201 E. Olive, opened for service Sunday with a ribboncutting ceremony and a barbecue fundraiser.

County commisioners talk eclipse, HOP transportation

With the 2024 solar eclipse less than five months away, the Lampasas County Commissioners Court is taking action to prepare for increased foot traffic within the county. During Monday’s meeting, commissioners agreed to provide portable toilets and dumpsters to be used during the upcoming event.

Presentation on Runaway Scrape

Aileen Roberts brought the November program for the Oran Milo Roberts Chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Dressed in character, Roberts recited diary excerpts from the period of the Runaway Scrape, when Texas residents fled from Santa Anna’s advancing army during the Texas Revolution.

TxDOT outlines options for U.S. 281 project

The Texas Department of Transportation hosted an open house Tuesday evening at New Covenant Church to outline its U.S. Highway 281 expansion plans that will extend from Lampasas to Evant. TxDOT presented five different routes to replace the current 28-mile segment of U.S.

A foggy morning in Lampasas County

A driver captured this image of the low-lying clouds hovering over FM 580 East this week. Although warm temperatures prevailed for much of the week, rain chances are in the forecast for Sunday with cooler weather expected to move in.

County Judge Randy Hoyer has lifted the outdoor burn ban. Burning in the county will be allowed until 6 p.m. Nov. 30. Residents are asked to notify the Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office at 512-556-8255 when they plan to conduct a burn.
