Kempner man dies in house fire

A 58-year-old man perished in a structure fire that occurred Saturday evening at his Kempner residence at 1013 Cherokee Trail. In a news release from the city of Kempner, the man has been identified as Garry Allan Kelley. The Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 6:12 p.m. Jan.

Lane closures expected on U.S. 281

The outside travel lanes of U.S. Highway 281 from Key Avenue south to the Lampasas County line were expected to be closed in both directions this week, according to TxDOT. Daily lane closures will occur from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with the work expected to be completed soon.

Fire officials hope to keep burn ban off

The burn ban is off for Lampasas County as of last week, and local and state officials are hoping for conditions to remain safe and wet. County Judge Randy Hoyer said the previous burn ban expired Jan. 19, and county commissioners decided not to reinstate a ban during their Jan. 22 meeting.

Memory-care unit opens
