Participation high at February Red Cross blood drive

The Lampasas Community American Red Cross Blood Drive drew 80 participants last week. The Feb. 6-7 drive took place at the First Street Church of Christ Family Life Center. Seventy-two units of blood were collected, with the potential to save at least 200 lives.

Food product recalled

Vanee Foods, a Broadview, Illinois establishment, is recalling approximately 9,564 pounds of chickenflavored base product due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced.

Dump truck overturns after avoiding school bus

A 42-year-old woman traveling on Farm to Market Road 580 East rolled her vehicle after noticing a stopped school bus on Thursday at 7:15 a.m. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s incident report, the school bus was not involved in the rollover.

CATTLE AUCTION

The report from the Feb. 7 Lampasas Cattle Auction follows. Cattle and calves: Total cattle 604, compared to 742 last sale and 603 at this time last year. Compared to last sale, feeder steers and heifers were unevenly steady. Slaughter cows were $2-$4 lower, and slaughter bulls $1-$3 lower.

Gas leak on Key Avenue labeled false alarm

A reported natural gas leak near South Key Avenue was deemed a “mystery” after Atmos Energy staff was unable to discover any leak early Thursday afternoon.

Lampasas school board receives academic performance update

Lampasas Independent School District students topped their region peers in 90% of the 2022-2023 STAAR test performance indicators, according to the Texas Education Agency.

ASH WEDNESDAY OBSERVANCE First Presbyterian Church will have “Ashes to Go” available Feb. 14 to those who would like to observe Ash Wednesday. Participants can pick up ashes and a special prayer in the parking lot between South Chestnut and Main Street behind the church sanctuary between 11 a.m.

TxDOT ditches Lampasas Relief Route plans

The Texas Department of Transportation is planning to axe its proposed Lampasas Relief Route project. Instead, TxDOT officials will focus on the Interstate-14 work it has begun. TxDOT said it will finalize and complete its executive summary of the Lampasas Relief Route by the end of 2024.
