Galvan sentenced to 10 years

A Taylor man who is a multiple felony offender has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in a Lampasas child sexual assault case. Andrew James Galvan, 51, entered a plea of guilty Dec. 1, 2023, to a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony.

GRAND JURY

Lampasas County grand jury convened Wednesday to continue the January term.

DISTRICT COURT

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings. Defendant David Scott Barczi of Lampasas received five years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division for evading arrest/detention with a vehicle.

Creeks begin to flow again

After heavy precipitation was recorded last weekend across Lampasas County, many wet-weather creeks began to run again. Here, the runoff forms a nice little waterfall as it trickles over the terrain into the creek below.

Corix to seek rate increase

Lometa water customers may see a raise in rates after a recent request filed by Corix Utilities with the state. The rate change request, issued on Jan. 31, is the second request within the last two years by the utility company, which issued a similar request in September 2022.

Lometa City Council questions expenditures

The Lometa City Council met Feb. 5 in council chambers at Lometa City Hall with all members present. Discussion focused on bills posted for approval at the meeting. Among the items questioned were bank charges, service charges and a possible double payment to the State Comptroller.

Commissioners Court accepts bonds for subdivisions

The Lampasas County Commissioners Court approved the acceptance of bonds for River Hills Ranch and Simms Creek Crossing subdivisions during Monday’s regular meeting. Also, the Commissioners Court OK’d the lease of a Pitney Bowes postage machine for the Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office.
