Tornado warning, flash flood warning issued

A tornado warning and flash flood warning have been issued for Lampasas County Wednesday evening.The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning in effect for Lampasas and surrounding counties from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. A flash flood warning was also issued, remaining effective until 8 p.m.

Thursday rainfall leads to closure of roads, parks

Rainfall on Thursday led to the closure of several Lampasas County roads and the Hancock Park Municipal Golf Course.On Thursday afternoon during severe storm activity, the National Weather Service registered the Lampasas River near Kempner at 20.

Lometa school board welcomes new member

The Lometa Independent School District Board of Trustees convened last week to confirm the results of its May 4 election and discuss the end of the school year for the district.

Truck hydroplanes off U.S. 183 roadway

A semi-truck en route to Lampasas hydroplaned off the roadway Thursday afternoon, causing traffic on U.S. Highway 183 to back up as the vehicle was recovered.Lampasas Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tim Weinrick said no injuries were reported.

City reduces water restrictions

The city of Lampasas has rescinded Stage 2 Water Conservation restrictions in response to water authorities.In a statement issued May 9, the Brazos River Authority announced that recent rainfall and lake levels had removed the need for water restrictions.

McLean sells Country Kitchen restaurant

After 41 years running the Country Kitchen & Bakery, it is time for owner Scott McLean to say goodbye.McLean’s final day at the place he has called home since 1983 came on Wednesday. He has an agreement with Putters & Gutters owner Roy Cockrell to purchase the beloved area diner.

Early voting began Monday in runoff elections for the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. Balloting is May 20-24 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the county Election Office, 407 S. Pecan St. in Lampasas.

Flood watch in effect until Friday morning

A flood watch has been issued for Lampasas County due to Thursday rains. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Lampasas, Hamilton, Coryell, Bell and surrounding counties. Thursday afternoon storms are expected to produce between 1.5 and 3.
