Pies for Peyton Jones scholarship

Kline Whitis Elementary School teacher Juan Villarreal takes a pie in the face for childhood cancer awareness on Friday. The pie-in-the-face celebration came after students raised $1,073 for The Peyton Jones Memorial Scholarship. Villarreal’s class was the top fundraiser for the scholarship by $3.

Video game creator takes inspiration from Operation Longhorn

Lampasas native Noah Garcia is looking to bring the U.S. Army training drill “Operation Longhorn” from the 1950s to the virtual world.Garcia is developing a video game called “Memoryleak,” a play on the 1952 military exercise that prepared for a potential Soviet invasion.

The land of Shrek is coming to Lampasas this fall, as Lampasas High School theater students will perform “Shrek the Musical Jr.” on three dates the second weekend of November.LHS theater director Greta Peterson said students are excited to bring the world from “Far, Far Away” to life.

Isenhour explores the wonders of woodcraft

From backscratchers to bowls and walking canes to candle holders, Kempner resident Gene Isenhour has a way of working with wood.Isenhour developed a wood art hobby in 2016 and is yet to look back. This year alone, he has handcrafted more than 125 bowls, with each piece having a story of its own.

Doggy Day Out: Animal shelter initiates community competition

The Lampasas Animal Shelter is going within the community with a special challenge that encourages volunteering and pet adoption.The Community Doggy Day Out Challenge is taking place through Nov. 27, and it encourages businesses and families to compete for the benefit of local dogs.
