Sons of Confederate Veterans group holds black powder competition in San Saba

John Anderson of Williamson County took the first-place trophy at the Black Powder Turkey Shoot, hosted Oct. 5 by the Sons of Confederate Veterans Saltworks Camp No. 2353 of Lampasas. The runner-up was Gary Lehmkuhler of Copperas Cove.

‘All roads lead to Lampasas’

Vision Lampasas soon will begin work on its 15th community mural, and this one will celebrate Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce events. The mural will be painted on the wall of the Chamber of Commerce building at 205 U.S. Highway 281 South.

Pies for Peyton Jones scholarship

Kline Whitis Elementary School teacher Juan Villarreal takes a pie in the face for childhood cancer awareness on Friday. The pie-in-the-face celebration came after students raised $1,073 for The Peyton Jones Memorial Scholarship. Villarreal’s class was the top fundraiser for the scholarship by $3.

Strategies offered for adding native plants to the landscape

More and more gardeners are adding native plants to their landscapes. These plants provide more than beautiful flowers to enjoy. They also support pollinators and other beneficial insects, and provide food and shelter for songbirds, toads and other wildlife.

university of maryland global campusRichard Long of Lampasas was named to the Dean’s List for the summer 2024 term at the University of Maryland Global Campus. To be eligible for the honor, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earn a gradepoint average of at least 3.

Video game creator takes inspiration from Operation Longhorn

Lampasas native Noah Garcia is looking to bring the U.S. Army training drill “Operation Longhorn” from the 1950s to the virtual world.Garcia is developing a video game called “Memoryleak,” a play on the 1952 military exercise that prepared for a potential Soviet invasion.
