Lampasas rolled to 7-0 with a 59-50 victory over Elgin and a 47-30 win over Lake Belton this week.

At Elgin on Monday, Cobie Chandler scored a careerhigh 18 points, and it was the Lady Badgers’ third straight win against a team from a larger class. Payton Tatum threw two behind-the-back passes, both for assists.

Head coach Mark Myers has been working with Tatum to regularly add highlevel skills into her game, including behind-the-back passes and spin layups.

Tatum is the team’s leading scorer through seven games.

“We’re gonna have to start calling her Pistol Pete,” Myers said.

The Lady Wildcats “were extremely tall,” but the Lady Badgers outscored them in each of the first three quarters. In the third, they outscored Elgin 15-10 for their best quarter of the day.

Lampasas had a 19-point lead with about three minutes left, but with substitutions and late Elgin scores, the final margin was about half that.

Individual scoring included:

Cobie Chandler 18

Payton Tatum 11

Kyliegh Ball 7

Morgan Lovejoy 6

Taylor Allen 5

Bre Quarles 5

Laurcy Bender 5

On Tuesday at home, LHS had Lake Belton playing catch-up from early in the first quarter. After scoring the first seven points, Lampasas took an 11-3 lead by the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Broncos, who were all freshmen or sophomores, trailed 20-9 at halftime and 37-16 at the end of the third.

Lampasas’ 10-plus fouls in the second half put Lake Belton in the double bonus, but Lake Belton made only three free throws in the game.
