Badgers win Burnet powerlifting meet

Lampasas won the boys' team division in powerlifting for the second week in a row, and the Lady Badgers placed fourth at Burnet on Thursday. 

Alyssa Ayers, Westen Reid, Case Brister, John Long and Caden Thrift earned gold medals for the second consecutive week.

"Several girls who were unable to lift in our meet got to compete yesterday," Lady Badger coach Duane Young said. "Girls increased their totals or secured their first total for the year. Alyssa Ayers was the outstanding light lifter and continued her assault on the school records by breaking her record in the squat."

"I was very proud of the team," Badger boys' coach David Brister said. "Many individual totals were increased, which will help us in qualifying for the regional meet. John Long broke all his school records in the 308 class again this week. The kids are working hard in the weight room every day, and I feel like our totals are going to continue to increase for the regional meet."'

Nimsi Vergara earned a silver medal for the Lady Badgers, and Parker Weinheimer and Conner Keele placed second in the boys' standings. 

Lampasas is scheduled to compete in Brady on Feb. 11.
