As a child his family moved often, enabling Al to attend many public schools. During his high school years, he became president of the student council and was responsible for establishing homecoming at Taylor High.
He graduated from Taylor High School in 1954. Al went on to attend Texas A&M University.
During his spare time, Al loved to be outdoors. He learned to hunt and fish at an early age and shared that love with his children and grandchildren.
In November 1957, Al met Doris Kuehn, and they were married on Nov. 29, 1958. This year they were six days shy of celebrating 64 years of marriage.
During those years, three children blessed his life: Leigh Ann Trolinger (Rolland), Timothy Fritcher (Vicki) and Deborah Waggoner (Kevin). He also had six grandchildren, Amanda Maicach, Andrea Fisher, Beka Burns, Tori Darter (Clint), Jake Fritcher and Sarah Fritcher; and four great-grandchildren, Breklyn, Broden, Aubrey and Ashton.
Al became an electrician and as a member of IBEW Local Union 520, he served as president, taught apprentice electricians and later became director of the electrical apprentice program.
The next 10 years were spent at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as director of field supervision of the construction of parks and wildlife campsites.
Al and Doris then moved from Austin to a ranch in Lampasas, where he enjoyed his Longhorn cattle, farming and woodworking.
Al loved God and was active in church by teaching Sunday School classes, serving on various committees and coaching softball teams. He was ordained as a deacon in 1980 at Northwest Baptist Church and recently was named deacon emeritus at First Baptist Church in Lampasas.
Every Thursday he looked forward to the fun, food and fellowship at LLL.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Grayling Fritcher.
Survivors include his wife, children, grandchildren and sister, Janice Cole.
