Feed store owner, stock show champion George Herrmann dies

George Harrell Herrmann, 70, of Lampasas died June 30, 2021 at his home.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. July 6 at Oak Hill Cemetery. Heritage Funeral Home of Lampasas has charge of arrangements.

Herrmann was born on May 9,1951 in Lampasas to Dorothy Harrell Herrmann and Joe D. Herrmann.

He graduated from Lampasas High School in 1969 and went on to Texas A&M University in College Station. After graduation from A&M in 1973, he returned to Lampasas the next week to report back to work at the family business, Herrmann Feed & Supply alongside his parents.

He took ownership of the feed store in 1983, and then sold the business in 2012 to enjoy retirement and travel with his friends.

Herrmann had a love for people and agriculture, and he enjoyed entertaining people.

One accomplishment for which he is best remembered was winning Grand Champion Steer honors at the Fort Worth Stock Show two years in a row (1967 and 1968). He also claimed the reserve championship in Dallas in 1967 and won top honors at Odessa in 1968.

A former competitive roper, Herrmann was involved in the community in various endeavors. He served on the Spring Ho Committee from 1976-1978 and helped coordinate the grand parade for more than 20 years, often driving the judges around to evaluate the parade entries and floats.

Herrmann was named Spring Ho Grand Parade marshal in 2009.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and his brother, Joe Paul Herrmann.
