City needs recycling program

I want to ask why Lampasas doesn’t have a recycling program.

I was shocked when I found out that Lampasans don’t recycle. I have lived in several different states and towns; all of them have recycling programs.

Recycling is the only way we are going to reduce the massive problem we are facing with the plastic, glass and cardboard choking our landfills. It is so easy to separate these items and recycle them. It barely takes any time and once you get used to it, it becomes very easy and second nature to do so.

All Americans need to reduce their dependence on single-use items also; for example, water bottles, soda bottles, Kcups, pudding, applesauce, mac & cheese, the list is endless. It seems everything is now in a single-use container. We need to reverse this trend if we don’t want to be up to our necks in refuse in 20 years.

Abuse of county taxpayers shown in salaries, taxes

The people of Lampasas County have had their chicken plucked, cooked and eaten by the very officials they elected to serve them. These officials have voted themselves such high salaries (sheriff makes $80,000, county judge makes $84,000), and the nice pension and health benefits for the other county “servants,” while disregarding the constables (less than $10,000 per year).

They are bumping their heads against the tax ceiling the taxpayers will allow without tar and feathering them.

Furthermore, the people were misled by the sheriff’ into approving a new jail the likes of which criminals will enjoy and want to stay in much more than the taxpayers will enjoy paying for it!

I retired from the Texas Department of Corrections as a dentist and never made $80,000 per year. This is so absurd, that all an honest man would have to do to be elected is to run on a platform that “I will be just as incompetent as the [incumbent official] and do it for half the salary!”

And this abuse will continue until we have on the county level the same “uprising” we had on a national level.
