Lampasas may see strong storms Thursday

National Weather Service issues hazardous weather outlook for Lampasas, Coryell, Bell and surrounding counties

Lampasas County may see severe thunderstorm activity and hail beginning Thursday evening, National Weather Service officials said.

NWS meteorologists issued a hazardous weather outlook for Lampasas, Coryell, Bell, Hamilton Mills and surrounding counties as of 11:23 a.m. on Thursday.

“Thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening mainly east of I-35 and south of I-20,” the outlook stated. “A few storms may become strong or severe with hail and damaging winds being the primary threats. Locally heavy rain may also lead to minor flooding.”

NWS Forecasts show cloudy skies on Friday with a high of 65 degrees and a low of 46. Saturday is predicted to be sunny with a high of 75 and wind between five and 15 miles per hour, with possible gusts of up to 20 mph. Saturday night, the low is expected to reach 53 degrees.

On New Year’s Day, the high is anticipated to be 77 degrees with another blustery day of five to 15 mph winds and gusts of up to 20 mph. The low Sunday night is 63 degrees, with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms.

Storm activity is anticipated to recur after this weekend, NWS officials said.

“Additional thunderstorm chances arrive on Monday. Strong to severe storms are possible,” meteorologists reported, although the extent of that severity is unknown at this time.
