Enrique Prado placed in about the top third of 115 runners at the 1A state cross country meet, but did not medal.
The Lometa senior clocked in with one of his best times, 17:47.56 in Monday’s state meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
Isaiah Billingsley of Miller Grove won gold with a time of 15:22.33.
“I am so very proud of him,” Lometa cross country coach Aurora Reyes said. “He ran hard, and as a coach, that’s all I could ever ask.”
Reyes coached Prado two years, and Prado also had made a state appearance under former coach Austin Cookson.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better athlete to coach,” Reyes said. “He’s a hard worker and has earned every opportunity he has had at state. He deserves it, and I wish him the best future ever!”
In the girls’ race, Evant’s Amy Pritchard took 15th with a time of 13:04.55.
Prado also was named firstteam all-district quarterback, an announcement made as he was preparing for a repeat trip to the state
cross country meet. Other Hornets who earned all-district football honors include:
