Filing opens for school board, municipal elections

The political season can keep voters busy in the spring.Although partisan primaries may be taking center stage right now, filing is underway for city council and school board elections. The filing period for these offices – which are non-partisan – runs from Jan. 14 through Feb. 13.

ARRESTS

The following arrests were reported to the Lampasas Dispatch Record by area law enforcement officials. The Dispatch Record prints the name and charge(s) of people arrested on at least one Class B misdemeanor – or more serious – charge.

DISTRICT COURT

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened last week with Judge Debbie Garrett presiding over the day’s hearings.Defendant Carol Ann Crim of Lampasas was given 12 months in state jail, with credit of 169 days for time served, on a charge of possession of a controlled substance less than 1 gram.

TPWD presents plans for Post Oak Ridge State Park

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department unveiled plans for Post Oak Ridge State Park at a public meeting on Thursday at the Lampasas County Office Building.More than 70 area residents packed the conference room to learn about the purpose and future vision of the park from TPWD representatives.

Kempner City Council holds first meeting since October

Kempner City Council members gathered Jan. 13 for their first regular meeting since October to select a new city attorney and city engineer.

The Lampasas County Republican Party will hold a candidate forum today at 6 p.m. at the old middle school cafeteria.Candidates will include those running for county judge, district clerk, Precinct 4 county commissioner and Precincts 2&3 justice of the peace. The public is encouraged to attend.

Red Cross blood drive donors hit new milestones

The Jan. 13 American Red Cross Blood Drive for the Lampasas community saw 68 donors participate and collected 79 units, drive coordinator Wanda Lang reported.“This was a great success,” Lang said.

Star party set for Saturday put on hold

UPDATE: Due to an incoming winter storm and cold, cloudy conditions expected on Saturday, the Lampasas Friends of the Night Sky Star Party planned for this weekend has been canceled.The Star Party has been rescheduled for Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. at Stoneledge Winery.

San Saba County Young Farmer members Tommy and Clovia Ketchum traveled to Nashville, Tennessee recently for the National Young Farmers Educational Association Conference, where Tommy Ketchum has served as president.

Bridge players take home prizes

Community Bridge met Jan. 12 in the Fellowship Hall at First Presbyterian Church. Six tables of bridge players were present.The group welcomed new players Debra Hull from Copperas Cove, and Marilyn May and Jane Miller from Lampasas.
