MANHUNT SUSPECT ARRESTED
Robert W. Morris II, who authorities said fled from game wardens and fired a handgun shot at one of them, was arrested Tuesday night, according to Lt. Kevin Miller, public information officer for the Copperas Cove Police Department.
Morris, a 40-year-old who has been listed as a Temple resident, was in the Bell County Jail at press time Wednesday morning.
Several agencies searched for Morris beginning in the afternoon of Nov. 18 after he allegedly fled from game wardens by vehicle to the 2500 block of Big Divide Road, then escaped on foot.
The Dispatch Record had an early publication deadline for this edition, and information about Morris’ charges was not immediately available.
The U.S. Marshals Service assisted in the search for Morris, Lampasas County Sheriff Jess Ramos reported late Monday morning.
Morris’ gunshot at the game warden missed. Warrants were issued for Morris’ arrest on multiple felonies – including attempted aggravated assault on a peace officer – and one misdemeanor, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
BURN BAN SUSPENDED
County Judge Randy Hoyer has lifted the county’s outdoor burn ban from this Friday until Tuesday at 5 p.m. As a result, controlled outdoor fires are allowed outside Lampasas, Kempner and Lometa city limits.
