Lampasas County Sheriff seeks more detention officers

During his Lampasas County Commissioners Court update Monday about the new county law enforcement center, Sheriff Jess Ramos said his department needs more manpower. Ramos said with more space at the new jail, more detention officers are needed.

Lampasas Comprehensive Plan addresses growth, needed upgrades

Lampasas has grown over the last 10 years, and city staff members are putting together a plan to answer the growth while also addressing upgrades needed throughout the city.

Community helps family displaced by Monday house fire

The early-morning hours of March 15 will forever affect the Fields family.  Around 1:56 a.m., husband and father of two Brandon Fields was awakened by a power outage. With his wife Tara, they investigated the home.

Fire destroys house on Snell Drive

A house fire Monday morning on Snell Drive displaced four people and killed three family pets — two dogs and one cat, officials said. Among the people displaced were two children. The family is staying with other family members, Fire Marshal Ronnie Withers said.

LISD continues its mask mandate

  Lampasas Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Chane Rascoe announced that face masks will continue to be required for both students and staff. Last week, LISD sent out surveys to all 670 staffers asking for their opinion on removing face masks in schools.

Lampasas City Council OKs hire of architect firm for Hostess House redesign

The Lampasas City Council is moving forward with plans to revive the historic Hostess House.  During its regular meeting Monday night, the council voted unanimously to hire Austin-based Reliance Architecture to draw up plans for upgrades to the limestone building.

Lampasas Fire Chief updates council on COVID-19

  During the Lampasas City Council workshop session Monday, Lampasas Fire Chief Jeff Smith reported a decrease in cases of the coronavirus. Smith also serves as the city’s emergency management coordinator.  “I continue to have good news as it relates to COVID-19,” Smith said.

Law enforcement center holds grand opening

By Monique Brand Lampasas Dispatch-Record About 250 people gathered at the Lampasas County Law Enforcement Center Wednesday afternoon for its grand opening. Guests included elected officials, county jail staff and members of surrounding police departments.
