Stuart Marshall Beckwith, 62, of Burnet died Feb. 18, 2022.
He was born on March 28, 1959, to Merwin and Jean (Hardgrove) Beckwith in Fort Worth.
Stuart grew up in Burleson and graduated from Burleson High School in 1977. He played college football at the University of Texas at Arlington.
After his time at UTA, Stuart transferred to Wayland Baptist University to play college basketball and complete his Bachelor of Science in physical education. While in Plainview, he served as an assistant coach for the WBU Flying Queens.
Stuart's passion for basketball continued after college through his travel with the Texas Crusaders in Brazil. Through this, he was able to spread the word of Jesus while playing the sport he loved. He also coached at the high school level at many school districts.
While teaching in San Saba, he met Dana. Stuart and Dana were married on July 16, 1994, in San Saba. They were married for 27 years before his death.
He served as children's minister at First Baptist Church and was a bivocational pastor at Pecan Grove Baptist Church in San Saba.
Stuart retired from coaching in 2017. Since then, he has operated his Hershey Ice Cream and Dippin' Dots distribution business. His hobbies included spending time with his family, keeping up with Walt Disney World, playing golf and traveling with his wife.
Stuart is survived by his wife, Dana Holland Beckwith of Burnet; daughter, Lauren Beckwith Covington and husband Jacob of Columbus, Georgia; son, Dustin Lewis and wife Sammi of San Saba; grandchildren Skylar Lewis and Paige Lewis of San Saba; brother, Steve Beckwith and wife Carey of Burleson; brother-in-law, Wayne Landers of Burleson; parents-in-law, Bert and Charlotte Holland of San Saba; sisters-in-law Susan Koenig and husband Marcus, and Christie Everett of San Saba; niece Kristi Landers Mayes and husband Rus of Godley and their daughter, MacKenzie Mayes; and several other nieces, nephews and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Toni Beckwith Landers.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 25 at San Saba’s First Baptist Church with Bro. Sam Crosby and Brian Boothe officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Tye Cemetery in Burleson. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of San Saba.
