Janis Beth Capps Banner died peacefully at the age of 88. She was born on April 7, 1938, in Mason to J.B. Capps and Dorothy Saunders Capps.
Janis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Macon Banner; her daughter, Jessica Blair Jones Wright; and her nephew, Shaun Capps.
She is survived by her children Julie Beth Jones Brown of Kerrville, Jennifer Bliss Jones Hurst of Comfort, and Bryan Frank Jones of Sherwood, Arkansas; her stepdaughters Amy Updegrove of Austin, and Kim Storms of San Antonio; her brother, Randall Wylie Capps and wife, Joyce Capps; nephews Wran Capps and Brandon Capps; 15 grandchildren; and 10 greatgrandchildren.
She spent her childhood on a large ranch south of Uvalde in Batesville, where she developed a deep appreciation for family, hard work and the beauty of God's creation. She attended Uvalde High School and then entered Abilene Christian University in 1956, where she earned a bachelor's degree in education.
Janis was a longtime member of Riverside Church of Christ in Kerrville, where she served faithfully.
Janis was a teacher, a stayat- home mother, an interior decorator, and later returned to the classroom as a teacher in Comfort. She touched the lives of countless students, friends, and family members with her kindness, wisdom and generous spirit.
Janis was married to Bill Jones from 1960 until 1985. They had four children: Julie Beth Jones Brown, Jennifer Bliss Jones Hurst, Jessica Blair Jones Wright, and Bryan Frank Jones. She later married Macon Banner and welcomed his daughters Amy Updegrove and Kim Storms into her family.
Services will be held at Riverside Church of Christ in Kerrville at 10 a.m. on July 30.
