Mr. Hatley

Garland S. Hatley, 90, died on Aug. 14, 2021, at his home in Lampasas.

He was born on Oct. 17, 1930, in Lampasas to Richard and Emma Gardner Hatley.

Garland grew up in Lampasas and after high school, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1948. He was honorably discharged in 1950.

He then began work for Mid-Texas Telephone Company in 1951 as a lineman and became wirechief for the Copperas Cove telephone exchange in 1959.

He retired in 1985 and built a home on the family ranch in Lampasas, where he spent his days running the ranch and fishing along the Colorado River and on Lake Fork.

Garland married Peggy Hatley in 1953 in Clovis, New Mexico. They were married for 68 years.

Garland loved baseball and football, especially the Lampasas Badgers and Dallas Cowboys.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Don Hatley and Dale Hatley, and by a son, Donald Hatley.

Garland is survived by his wife, Peggy Hatley; son, Ronald Hatley of Grapevine; daughter, Cherie Jacks and son Richard Hatley of Lampasas; a sister, Jean (Bob) Macy of Richardson; sister-in-law, Betty Hatley of Lampasas; grandchildren Lynda Hatley of Grapevine, Hope (Michael) Kemper of Kingsville, Russell, Sarah and Timothy Jacks of Lampasas, Brandon and John “JD” Hatley of Lampasas, and James Barker and Rachel Sherrer of Lebanon, Missouri; great-grandchildren Addison, Bailey and Kyler Jacks, Levi and Presley Rivera of Lampasas, and Greyson and Madelyn Kemper of Kingsville; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
