Derlice Hughes, 82, a lifetime resident of Kempner, died Aug. 9, 2021 at her home.
Derlice was born Nov. 11, 1938 in the Kempner area to Thurman Otis Speer and Veda June Carroll Speer. She graduated from Lampasas High School.
On July 20, 1957, she married Quentin Hughes. The two of them shared 64 years of marriage. Derlice dedicated her life to taking care of her family and never worked outside the home.
She enjoyed spending time with her husband, family and most of all her grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching soccer, growing flowers and watching the wildlife off her back porch, especially the deer.
Derlice is survived by her husband, Quentin Hughes of Kempner; a son, Flint Hughes and wife Kellie; three daughters, Leisa Yoho and husband Danny, Wendy Morrison and husband Josh, and Ashley Shipp and husband Greg Wright; eight grandchildren, Trampus Morrison, Topper Morrison, Riggen Hughes, Rowdy Hughes, Ridge Hughes, Tatum Morrison, Desarae (Yoho) Faught and Desta (Yoho) Morua; three great-grandchildren, Cade Rogers, Cazely Rogers and Sophia Morua; and many extended family members.
The Hughes family had a time of visitation from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 12 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 13 in the chapel of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove, with the Rev. Josh Morrison officiating. Interment will follow in Smith Cemetery in Kempner.
