John Jeffrey Runyon, 64, of Lampasas died at his residence on Aug. 2, 2021.
He was born on Feb. 20, 1957 in Muncie, Indiana to Edward and Norma Sue Losh Runyon.
Mr. Runyon had lived in Lampasas since 1983. He moved here from Austin, after having spent his childhood in Indiana.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific on the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany, last of the aircraft carriers that had a wooden deck. He earned the National Defense Service Medal.
He had worked part time at Hancock Park Golf Course in Lampasas as a course marshal. His favorite pastime and hobby was golf.
He married Sharon Watson Carpenter at their residence in Lampasas on Feb. 20, 1983, and they were married for 38 years.
Mr. Runyon is survived by his wife, Sharon Runyon, of Lampasas; one son, Travis Buntin of Lafayette, Indiana; one stepson, Chris Carpenter of Spring, Texas; one brother, Mike Runyon of Marion, Indiana; five grandchildren; three nieces and five nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Kelly Runyon Bragg and Teri McQuien.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 13 at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Lampasas, with Bruce Crawford to officiate. Heritage Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
