Mrs. Roberts

Mary Kathryn York-Roberts died in her home on July 28, 2021.

Kathryn was born Oct. 6, 1925 in Brady to Robert and Bernice York. Kathryn, or “Tatchie” as some called her, went to school in Moline until it was consolidated with Lometa. She was part of the first graduating class in Lometa in 1943.

Kathryn married John A. Roberts on Aug. 21, 1943 in Lometa. Two months later, J.A. joined the Navy, and Kathryn moved to San Antonio before later moving to Seattle, where J.A. was stationed.

Years later, they returned to Lometa, where they owned the Modern Beauty Shop and Lometa Locker Plant for many years.

Kathryn was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed being with her family and friends, and going to rodeos where all three of her children participated through the years. She loved to sew and embroider, and to cook for her family. Kathryn also enjoyed spending time gardening, growing flowers and vegetables.

She was preceded in death by her husband J.A. Roberts and Tipton Benjamin; son, John Lynn Roberts; three brothers, Howard, Buck and Charles York; one sister, Belle Wagner; and son-inlaw Mitch Fortner.

She is survived by her children Patricia Ditmore and Gene of Abilene, and Debbie Fortner of Lometa; grandchildren Ashley Green of Arlington and Mikaila Fortner of Lometa; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
