Betty Evelyn Poe, 84, of Lometa died June 24, 2021 at AdventHealth Central Texas in Killeen.
Funeral services will be July 8 at 11 a.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m.
Interment will follow at School Creek Cemetery.
Betty was born to Keston O.P. Hodge and Iolah Azalea Hill Hodge. She was the oldest of six children.
While a teenager, Betty worked one summer at Dyess Air Force Base where her father worked in construction.
She graduated from Lampasas High School in May 1955 and then attended Jackson Business College in Lampasas. Upon completion of her courses, she worked in Austin until she married Bobby Dale Poe on Feb. 11, 1956.
After her marriage, she worked for a couple of attorneys in Lampasas before getting a job at Fort Hood. She later had a job with civil service and retired after 20 years.
Betty opened the Lometa Music Hall, where a number of performers played and entertained there. Her favorite hobbies were singing, crocheting and sewing. She also enjoyed singing for the crowds. Betty sang in quartets at Broad Street Church of Christ in Lampasas and performed with the Sweet Adelines group.
Betty was involved in many community activities. She served on the Lometa City Council, was a Farm Bureau member and served on the Lampasas Historical Commission.
Betty was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Gale Hodge; and by her husband, Bobby Dale Poe.
Survivors include her siblings Patricia Ann Hodge Thornal (Bill), Bradley Hodge (Mary Ann), Azalea Dell Hodge Aldinger and Alicia Nell Hodge Lane; children Beverly Poe Maddux (Jimmy), Bobby Dale Poe Jr. (Binhua), Barry Poe (Tammy), Brent Stephen Poe (Lori), Betsy Poe and Bryce Darren Poe; grandchildren Bobby Dale Poe III, Benjamin H. Poe, Amy H.G. Poe, Kenny and Crystal Tabler, Otto, Benjamin, Cecilia, Aiden and Faith; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
