Douglas Lloyd Wilkinson, 74, of Lampasas was born Dec. 24, 1946 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Marvin and Opal (Halsey) Wilkinson.
He died at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple on June 27, 2021, due to complications after surgery.
Doug attended school in Ottumwa, Iowa and graduated in 1966. He joined the Army National Guard and then the Army Reserves, where he trained as a wheeled vehicle mechanic. He continued to use those skills for the rest of his life.
He worked in the parts department of automobile dealerships in Iowa, Texas and Missouri. For many years, he enjoyed participating in Corvette car shows across the USA, from Washington state to New Jersey.
An avid gardener, Doug loved fresh vegetables and made sure the family had a stockpile of home-canned tomatoes, various beans, squash, potatoes and pickles to enjoy throughout the year.
On Dec. 21, 1996, he married Geneva Campbell Naney. Genie and Doug lived in Euless, Texas, and Springfield, Missouri, then settled in Lampasas in June 2011 on her mother's ranch.
Doug was a Baptist by faith.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Dianna Stafford, and niece, Jodi, both victims of COVID-19.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Genie Wilkinson; sons Robbie Wilkinson of Lampasas, and Barry (Pam) Wilkinson of Gore, Oklahoma; daughters Lori (Cordell) Juhola of Prophetstown, Illinois, and Kellie (Jason) Jones of Rochester, Minnesota; son, Jim Naney and daughter Susan Collins, both of Avalon, Texas, and daughter Anne (Philip) Jaynes of Italy, Texas; a brother, Rick Wilkinson of Ottumwa, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and in-laws Douglas and Charlotte Edwards, Gaila Edwards Barnard, and Mickey and Jani Edwards.
Doug chose to be cremated, and a private time of remembrance will be held at the home of Mickey and Jani Edwards in Lampasas. Sneed Funeral Chapel has charge of arrangements.
