Guy Loyal Smith, 76, died on May 1, 2021 in Gatesville.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. May 5 at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. May 6 at Gillum Cemetery in Oakalla, with the Rev. Kevin Veazey officiating.
Guy Loyal was born on July 2, 1944 in Lampasas to Guy Van Smith and Cleta Carpenter Smith. He grew up in Artesia, New Mexico, and graduated from high school there. He then went on to Eastern New Mexico University.
He owned Guy's Grocery and Station in Kempner; Smith's Corner Grocery in Manitou Springs, Colorado; a gun shop in Granbury; a grocery store in Weatherford; an arcade in Weatherford; and was a manager at Jack's Drivein Grocery Store. He also worked for Buford King on construction projects at his ranch near Ardmore, Oklahoma.
Guy worked as a framer on many new-house builds. During the '70s, he served Kempner as a constable.
Guy was a hard worker, personable, had a sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. He loved dancing and worked as a youth minister in his early years.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Vanetta Beach, and by an infant sister, Clevanel Smith.
Survivors include his son, Dustin Smith and wife Hollie; daughter, Jennifer Shelato and husband Troy; grandchildren Colby Neimann, Dylan Shelato, Brianna Shelato, Xi Smith, Xoie Smith and Xander Smith; great-grandchildren Caelynn and Caseyn; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
