Mr. Wilson

Delbert DeWayne Wilson, 80, died on March 13, 2021, at Seton Hospital in Round Rock.

Funeral services will be March 16 at 1 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel, with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.

Del was born on Oct. 2, 1940, in Abilene to Grady and Bessie Wilson. He grew up in Anson and graduated from Anson High School in 1959.

After high school, he attended Angelo State University and graduated from Abilene Christian in 1963. Del was on an athletic scholarship for baseball while at Angelo State and then football for the ACU Wildcats.

After graduating from college, he began working for Fredericksburg ISD as a football coach, which started his long career in coaching. He continued at Lubbock Estacado where he was part of a state championship football team in 1968.

He had stops at Brady as a head football coach, athletic director, and Abilene Wylie High School as a head football coach and athletic director. He retired from Lampasas ISD as a coach and teacher after over 30 years in the school system.

Coach Wilson was inducted into the Lubbock ISD Sports Hall of Fame for being a part of Jimmie Keeling's coaching staff at Lubbock Estacado and winning a state championship in the school's first year of eligibility.

Del was a deacon and song leader at 4th and Bridge Street Church of Christ in Brady. He loved serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Del was married to his wife, Pam. They celebrated their 30- year anniversary on March 10 of this year.

Del, or Coach Wilson as he was known to many, influenced countless lives through his coaching career. He also enjoyed playing golf and loved his regular golf game at Hancock Park in Lampasas.

Del was preceded in death by his siblings L.G. Wilson, Dee Wilson and Ladelle Green.

Survivors include his wife, Pam of Lampasas; daughters Deana Hargrove and husband Walter of Eastland, Ronna Wilson of Kingsland, and Shaye Lewis and husband Pace of Goldthwaite, and their mother, Kay Dean; grandchildren Kaysi Henderson, Haley Phillips, Kylee Harris, Katelyn Wilson, Tanner McLean, Jaci Lewis, Cassandra Wilkins, Morris Wilkins, Jordan Wilkins, Sierra Wilkins, James Wilkins, Jackson Wilkins and Grayson Wilkins; great-grandchildren Mason Phillips, Kinsler Harris, Hudson Henderson, Milani Wilson, Kimber McLean, Tripp McLean and Hudson Luke Wilkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
