House in Lometa burns completely

A residence in Lometa burned during the early hours of Friday morning. Lampasas Fire Marshal J.P. Harris said the mobile home, located at 203 N. Second St., is a total loss, and that the cause of the fire is under investigation.

County to lift burn ban through Wednesday

Lampasas County Judge Randy Hoyer is temporarily lifting the current burn ban, effective immediately.  The burn ban was put in place back in April, due to drought concerns, as wildfires had begun spreading in different areas of Texas.

Operation Longhorn Round Table to be held Saturday

There will be an Operation Longhorn Round Table  from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, at the Lampasas County museum. Operation Longhorn was an 18-day military training exercise in the 1950s.  This exercise featured over 100,000 troops sent to “restore order” in town.

More roadway maintenance in Lampasas County

The Texas Department of Transportation Brownwood District will start its annual maintenance sealcoat project today and expected to be completed in the next several weeks.  TxDOT’s contractor, Brannon Paving Ltd., will start on U.S. 183 in Lampasas County this afternoon.

Railroad crossing at FM 581 in Lometa to close Monday for maintenance

BNSF Railway will close a section of FM 581 will close a section of Farm-to-Market 581 (Main Street) in Lometa on Monday for the BNSF Railway to perform maintenance on a railroad crossing. This closure will begin at 7 a.m.  Monday and work is expected to be completed by 5 p.m. the following day.

Six vie for three Lometa at-large seats

Lometa voters will decide among six candidates for three at-large positions on the City Council. Early voting begins April 19, and the municipal election is May 1. Incumbents James Dickison and Marsha Laughlin filed to seek re-election.
