Five turnovers – three interceptions and two fumbles – ended up costing the Badgers in their week one game against the Elgin Wildcats. Lampasas lost 29-20. The Wildcats were the only team to score points in the second half, after the Badgers went into halftime up 20-14.

The Badgers will be back in action on the football field for the first time since last November. They travel to Elgin to play the Wildcats tonight and will kick off the 2022 season with a new group of players. “I’m really excited,” head coach Troy Rogers said.

The Lometa Hornets will face another playoff team from a year ago in the Gorman Panthers for their seasonopener tonight. After success last year, an 8-3 record and a second-round playoff loss, the Hornets want to build on that with a mostly new and young group this year.

The Lady Badgers traveled to Gatesville over the weekend to play in a freshman, junior varsity and varsity tournament from Thursday through Saturday. The varsity started out 0-3 in pool play, but the team went 2-1 in bracket play.

On Friday, the Badger cross country team traveled to Temple to run in the Invitational Cross Country Meet, the first meet of the year. “We had a great day, walking away with medals in every division,” Lampasas head coach Macey Siegert said.

Brownwood came into Lampasas last Friday for each team’s final scrimmage before the beginning of the regular season this week. The Badgers and Lions worked offense and defense in a rotation based on number of plays.
