Services set Saturday for longtime Farm Bureau director Christine Groves

Feed store owner and longtime Lampasas County Farm Bureau director Christine Coe Groves died May 15, 2026, in Longview at the age of 95.

She was born Dec. 21, 1930, in Centrahoma, Coal County, Oklahoma, to Robert Alton Coe and Blanche Breed Coe.

After the death of her father, Christine’s mother married Roy Sansom, and she, along with Mildred Coe Gehrke, Bobby Coe, Dorothy Coe Crane, Emmett Sansom, Norman Sansom, Carroll Sansom and Jim Sansom, grew up on a dairy farm in Manor.

After she graduated as valedictorian of her high school, she married Barney Groves Jr. on Sept. 29, 1950. The couple made their home on a ranch in Rumley near Lampasas. They had been married 72 years at the time of his death in 2022.

Alongside her husband, Mrs. Groves co-owned Lam-Tex Feed at the corner of East Fourth and Hackberry Street for 50 years where they sold feed, seed and fertilizer. She also did clothing alterations for customers. In addition, Mrs. Groves contributed to the farming and ranching operations on their Z-Bar Ranch.

She was a longtime supporter and involved member of Farm Bureau, 4-H clubs and other community activities.

Mrs. Groves is survived by her children and their spouses David and Rose Groves, Steve and Peggy Groves, and Kathy and Perry Lemmons; 11 grandchildren, Dwayne, Sherry, James, Crystal, Brad, Suzanne, Chase, Jessica, Jenny, Kendra and Bryce; 26 greatgrandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as an extended Christian family.

Mrs. Groves was preceded in death by her husband, her siblings and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas on May 23 at 2 p.m., with visitation from 12:30-2 p.m.

Burial will follow at the Groves Cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Lampasas County Livestock Association or to a charity of one’s choice.
